چکیده

MacLeod et al. (1954) noted that a number of strains of bacteria from the marine environment which can not grow on fresh water media are dependent upon Na+, K+, and Mg++, whereas several similar isolates capable of growth on fresh water media have no Na+ dependence. A subsequent investigation of the effect of these metal ions on the viability in storage and the activity of oxidative systems of a Na+ dependent strain (Tomlinson and MacLeod, 1957) showed a definite requirement for the three ions for storage and for Na+ and K+ for the oxidation of succinate and alanine. In this laboratory a marine bacterium capable of forming induced enzymes for the oxidation of uronic acids has been isolated from glucuronate enriched marsh mud from Sapelo Island, Georgia. This paper represents a study of the effects of substrate, sea salt, and Na, K, and Mg salts on the induction of the oxidative system.

Studies on bacterial utilization of uronic acids. II. Growth response and oxidative activity of various species.

The ability of members of the colon-typhoiddysentery group of bacteria to utilize glucuronic acid was established some years ago (Kay, 1926; Quick and Kahn, 1929). Subsequently, Heald (1952a) isolated a number of coliform bacteria from rumen contents which fermented glucuronic acid to products quite different from those produced by the fermentation of glucose. Kraght and Starr (1952) reported t...

Studies on bacterial utilization of uronic acids. 4. Alginolytic and mannuronic acid oxidizing isolates.

Several species of bacteria are known to utilize galacturonic and glucuronic acids (Thofern and Hollmann, 1956; Payne and Carlson, 1957; and McRorie, Williams, and Payne, 1959), but there have been no reports of utilization of mannuronic acid. DeLey (1953) and Starr, DeLey, and Kilgore (1957) observed that Aerobacter cloacae and Erwinia carotovora did not metabolize this acid. We have found (Pa...

Hydrophobicity effect on oil degradation by two marine bacterial strains Alcanivorax borkumensis and Thalassolituus oleivorans

Variations on hydrophobicity were monitored in two marine obligate hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria: Alcanivorax borkumensis SK2T and Thalassolituus oleivoras MIL-1T. These strains were inoculated, separately in ONR7a mineral medium with different concentration of sodium acetate. During 10 days measurements of cellular abundance and cellular hydrophobicity (capacity to adhere at polystyrene) were c...

Effect of replacement of fish oil with different plant oils in Oncorhynchus mykiss broodstocks diets on egg and larval antioxidant defense development

This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of feeding rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) broodstocks with different ratio of plant oils to evaluate the changes in antioxidant defense status in the progenies. In the experimental diets, fish oil was replaced with different combination of plant oils including corn oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, and coconut oil, to gain differen...

Effects of branched-chain amino acid deficiency in diets on growth factors, pancreatic enzymes activity and whole body proximate of Sobaity seabream juvenile (Sparidentex hasta)

On the current study the effects of reducing branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) in diets of Sobaity sea bream in a constant level (40%) on growth and nutritional indices, pancreatic enzymes activity, whole body chemical proximate and amino acids, was assessed. This experiment was conducted in Marine Fish Research Station of Imam Khomeini harbor during July and August of 2014. For these purposes,...
